Amina was only 12 years old when her world fell apart. Living in a small village in the heart of Congo, her life was already full of challenges. But when militants raided their village, her family was displaced, losing their home, their belongings, and their sense of safety. They sought refuge in a makeshift camp miles away from their home. In this desolate place, where survival was a daily battle, tragedy struck again: Amina’s mother succumbed to illness, leaving her and her baby sister, Zuri, to fend for themselves.

Amina loved Zuri more than anything in the world. At just 18 months old, Zuri was frail, weak, and completely dependent on her older sister. Despite her young age, Amina stepped into the role of caregiver, cradling Zuri in her arms, feeding her with scraps she could find, and singing her lullabies when the baby cried out in hunger or fear. Every day, Amina would walk barefoot under the scorching sun to fetch water, often waiting hours in line for a single jug to keep her sister hydrated.
But as the weeks turned into months, Amina began to notice Zuri's tiny body growing weaker. The baby’s laughter had faded, her cries becoming softer and more strained. Amina tried everything she could—feeding her the little food she could find, whispering stories of hope into her ear, even wrapping her in her own tattered clothes to keep her warm at night. But despite her best efforts, Zuri’s condition worsened.

One fateful evening, as the sun set over the barren camp, Zuri took her last breath in Amina’s arms. The little girl who had fought so hard for her sister sat motionless, holding her tiny, lifeless body, tears streaming down her face. In that moment, Amina felt the weight of a grief far too heavy for her young heart to bear.
This heartbreaking tragedy could have been the end of Amina’s story, too. But it wasn’t. Amid her despair, hope appeared in the form of a team from Congo Future, a charity working tirelessly in the region to support displaced families. While they couldn’t save Zuri, they found Amina and gave her a chance to rebuild her life. With their help, Amina was placed in a loving care home where she received food, education, and emotional support.
Today, Amina is beginning to heal. The scars of her trauma remain, but she is slowly finding her voice again. She dreams of becoming a nurse one day, determined to save lives so that no one else has to experience the pain she endured. Amina's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of compassion.

But there are still so many children like Amina out there—children who are fighting battles no child should face. Congo Future is working every day to provide food, shelter, and hope to those in desperate need. Your support can make all the difference. Together, we can ensure that no child is left to face such unimaginable pain alone.
